NHLS Eastern Cape Graduate Internship Programme 2026

The National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) – Eastern Cape region has opened applications for its Graduate Internship Programme, offering four (4) internship opportunities on a two-year, fixed-term, non-renewable contract. The programme is scheduled to commence on 1 November 2026 and forms part of NHLS’s ongoing commitment to developing young, unemployed South African graduates through structured, hands-on workplace experience.

Available Positions

Procurement (1 post) — Gqeberha, Main Building
Qualification: Advanced Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management

Inventory & Logistics (2 posts) — East London Regional Office
Qualifications: Advanced Diploma / BTech / BCom in Logistics, OR Advanced Diploma / BTech / BA / Degree in Information Technology

Human Resources (2 posts) — East London Regional Office & Mthatha
Qualification: Advanced Diploma / BTech / BCom in HRM/HRD

Programme Details

Interns will gain valuable, practical workplace experience through structured on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching from experienced NHLS professionals. Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend determined according to the NHLS stipend structure, based on their relevant qualification level. Please note that accommodation and transport will not be provided, so applicants should consider proximity to the placement location.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

• Be unemployed South African citizens aged 18–35 years
• Have completed an Advanced Diploma (NQF 6), Degree, Honours, or Master’s degree in one of the specified disciplines above
• Not have previously participated in any Internship Programme within the Public Service
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Demonstrate strong computer literacy and technological skills
• Hold a valid driver’s licence (advantageous, not mandatory)

Candidates should also bring teamwork and collaboration skills, a positive attitude, reliability and self-discipline, a strong sense of responsibility and results orientation, emotional intelligence and resilience, solid interpersonal and organisational skills, and sound technical or functional competence in their field.
